Project Title: Biomes and Living Things

Curriculum focus:Identify the different biomes and Interactions of living things within different biomes.

How do living things interact in different biomes?

Project Aims:

Science is part of what human beings do to try to understand their environment and their role within it. Plants and animals respond to changes in the environment in a variety of ways. Organisms relate to each other in complex ways. These might include symbiotic and parasitic relationships, among others.Organisms function in a variety of ways within their environments, such as consumers, producers, and decomposers. Curiosity is good! Environments are very complicated systems that defy simple definition and aren't easily controlled.

Focus Questions:

Can we define and/or control an environment?

What does it mean for humans to aspire to a healthy understanding of and relationship to the environment?

Students will understand how organisms interact with their environment.

  • Define ecosystem and provide examples of different ecosystems.

  • Provide examples showing relationships among organisms, such as mutually beneficial and competitive relationships.

  • Define the roles of consumers, producers, and decomposers in an ecosystem and provide examples.

  • Know that changes in an organism's habitat are sometimes beneficial and sometimes harmful to the organism.

  • Describe the response of plants to changing environmental conditions such as light, gravity, water, and space.
